Caprock integrity for CO2 storage

The fight against climate change requires innovative solutions, and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology has become increasingly vital to reduce atmospheric CO2 load. One critical challenge in CCS is ensuring the integrity of the caprock. An effective caprock is essential for preventing CO2 leakage, which undermines the purpose of CCS, could potentially contaminate aquifers, and ultimately erodes public trust in CCS technologies.

Our team of researchers has been examining how to link caprock geochemical and geomechanics properties to quickly screen for leaky reservoirs in a variety of settings. This work has been a sandbox for our team to test some of the scientific hypotheses related to using geochemical screening of caprocks to estimate their containment efficacy.

Our research emphasizes the importance of collaboration and innovation in tackling the challenges associated with CCS. We invite industry experts, potential partners, stakeholders, and innovators to join us in our mission to refine and enhance CCS technologies for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

Together, we can develop cutting-edge solutions for secure CO2 containment, minimize leakage risks, and drive the large-scale implementation of CCS technology to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
